John Conte represents clients in contentious special situations disputes and insolvency matters. Mr. Conte regularly advises companies, special committees, credit and alternative investment funds, foreign liquidators, and other stakeholders in bankruptcy proceedings and civil cases in state and federal court.
Mr. Conte has successfully litigated high-stakes disputes concerning liability management transactions, contested M&A deals, and novel cross-border insolvency issues. Mr. Conte also advises funds on investments related to distressed and special situations, particularly where recoveries are driven by litigation outcomes, and develops global strategies arising from defaulted debt and unpaid judgments.
Before joining Kobre & Kim, Mr. Conte practiced in the business restructuring groups at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Conte served as an officer in the United States Army where he led an infantry platoon in Afghanistan.
