Our client can now petition for benefits on her daughter’s behalf, file for immigration status and obtain multiple other legal and social services.

NEW YORK, September 5, 2023 – Kobre & Kim, an international disputes and investigations law firm, has announced that former Eastern District of New York (“EDNY”) Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Keilty has joined the firm to enhance its International Private Client (“IPC”) offering. He will be based in the firm’s New York Office but is expected to travel regularly to the firm’s other offices serving IPC clients, including Dubai, Tel Aviv, Cyprus, Hong Kong and London, among others.

SEOUL, JUNE 22, 2023 – Kobre & Kim LLP, together with law firms Three Crowns and KL Partners, have obtained a US $108 million award for Elliott Associates, L.P., resolving an international arbitration against the Republic of Korea over its alleged unlawful intervention in the 2015 merger between Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries, both affiliates of Samsung Group, Korea’s largest chaebol.

Kobre & Kim Successfully Defeats Spain’s Sovereign Immunity Challenge in UK High Court in Landmark International Enforcement Case
In one of the most significant judgments on state immunity and international arbitration in decades, the Commercial Court (High Court) in London has dismissed Spain’s challenge to the recognition of an ICSID arbitration award (the Antin Award) based on grounds of sovereign immunity and European Union case law.

In a win for Kobre & Kim client Major League Baseball Properties, Inc., a federal court has ordered a Dominican broadcasting company and its New York affiliate to turn over various kinds of property to MLB, including bank account funds in New York and the Dominican Republic, certain contractual payment rights, and a helicopter.

In our ongoing partnership with pro bono group LawWorks, Kobre & Kim succeeded last month in increasing a young woman’s Personal Independence Payment (“PIP”) award in London to the highest available amount, granting her an additional £95.05 per week that will be backdated to November 2021.

In collaboration with Americans for Immigrant Justice’s pro bono program since 2017, Adriana Riviere-Badell – named Americans for Immigrant Justice's Pro Bono Hero – led a team to represent child siblings from Guatemala who had been orphaned, and their hard work and dedication has led to the first of the children’s green cards coming in a few weeks ago.

Kobre & Kim continues to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring Maria Teresa Kumar, a Colombian American political rights activist and the President and CEO of Voto Latino. Kumar was born in Bogota, Colombia and grew up in Sonoma, California where she attended the University of California, Davis. She later earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

CFTC Produces Unreleased Information on Kraft–Mondelēz Settlement, Resolving Kobre & Kim’s FOIA Suit
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has agreed to produce previously unseen documents and communications related to an unprecedented 2019 “gag” order with Kraft and Mondelēz, under the terms of a settlement. The settlement ends a long-running Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by global disputes and investigations law firm Kobre & Kim.
