Dr. Mingda Hang advises entities, executives, and high-net-worth individuals on government enforcement matters and other sensitive and complex situations, with a particular focus on China-related issues.  Dr. Hang is one of the very few who have served as a U.S. federal prosecutor and is a native Chinese speaker.

Before joining Kobre & Kim, Dr. Hang served in the U.S. Department of Justice's Criminal Division, most recently acting as a Unit Deputy Chief in the Money Laundering, Narcotics and Forfeiture Section, co-leading a team of about 15 federal prosecutors investigating and litigating some of the United States’ most high-profile cases against transnational organized crime groups. As a line prosecutor and a supervisor, Dr. Hang prosecuted complex cross-border matters involving money laundering, asset movement, cryptocurrency, narcotics trafficking, weapons smuggling and material support to foreign terrorist organizations, advised Criminal Division leadership on prosecution strategies and operational priorities regarding transnational criminal organizations, and coordinated with U.S. Attorney’s Officers, federal law enforcement agencies, foreign counterparts, and Interpol.

Prior to his time at the Justice Department, Dr. Hang served as an Investigator at the World Bank Group's Integrity Vice Presidency, where he led investigations and sanctions proceedings involving companies, individuals, and World Bank-funded projects across Asia. Earlier in his legal career, he practiced at two international law firms, Jones Day and Morrison & Foerster LLP, focusing on matters involving allegations of foreign corruption, money laundering, export controls violations, and economic espionage.

Dr. Hang came to the United States for graduate studies after growing up in China and obtained his doctorate’s degree in molecular genetics and microbiology.
