Kobre & Kim has won an important jurisdictional ruling from a federal appeals court for the engineering firm Process & Industrial Developments (P&ID) in its petition to confirm an arbitral award, now valued at US $10 billion, against the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

In honor of Black History Month, Kobre & Kim is reflecting on the unique contributions made by African Americans both inside and outside the legal industry. Today, we celebrate Bryan Stevenson, a social justice activist and law professor at New York University School of Law and the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative based in Montgomery, Alabama. Through his work with the Equal Justice Initiative, Stevenson has devoted his career to challenging biases in the criminal justice system against minorities and poor populations. Stevenson’s memoir Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption was turned into a world-renowned legal drama Just Mercy in 2019.

In honor of Black History Month, Kobre & Kim is reflecting on the unique contributions made by African Americans both inside and outside the legal industry. Today, we celebrate pioneering Black women serving in the U.S. judiciary: Ketanji Brown Jackson, Leondra Kruger and Julianna Michelle Childs. If nominated and confirmed to serve on the highest court in the United States, any of these women would make history as the first Black woman Supreme Court Justice.

President of Inter Milan and a Newly Appointed Non-Independent Director of Suning.com, Steven Zhang, Sued for over US$250 million Owed by Suning Xiaodian
According to the court documents filed in the Hong Kong Court on 2 August 2021, Steven Zhang, President of the Italian soccer team Inter Milan, is sued by China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited as agent of a group of creditors, seeking more than US$250 million in outstanding debts held by Suning Xiaodian, less than a week after Steven Zhang’s appointment as a non-independent director of Suning.com on 29 July 2021.

Sherwin, a high-ranking prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice, who most recently served as the Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, where he supervised the largest U.S. Attorney’s Office in the country, has joined the disputes and investigations firm Kobre & Kim. Mr. Sherwin will be based out of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
