Jason Masimore Discusses the Power of Jurisdiction in Asset Recovery at the Big Debt Recovery Conference in Moscow

April 23, 2019

London-based attorney and former U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutor Jason Masimore joined panelists at Legal Insight’s Big Debt Recovery conference in Moscow on April 18, where he discussed strategic considerations for legal professionals when determining the best strategies to monetize cross-border, asset recovery matters in a panel presentation titled “Alternatives: Civil and Criminal Enforcement Abroad.”

Drawing from experience prosecuting international financial crime cases and pursuing criminal asset forfeiture, Mr. Masimore considered modern monetization theories and differences in U.S. and Russian law to suggest the most effective methods of recovering large non-performing debts. In doing so he focused in particular on the importance of mapping these strategies before engaging in litigation, considering powerful discovery tools available in other jurisdictions, and evaluating potential opportunities to leverage victims’ rights in deploying sovereign-driven asset recovery.
