Economic crimes are a serious affliction on every economy in the world, and legal systems everywhere are grappling with how to hold wrongdoers accountable. Kobre & Kim’s Evelyn Sheehan will break down civil forfeiture, one of the critical tools used in this fight, when she joins a plenary workshop during the 38th Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime.
Ms. Sheehan, a former federal prosecutor and deputy chief of the Asset Forfeiture Division in Miami, will take a deep dive into the use of civil forfeiture during the panel, “Non-conviction-based (civil) forfeiture: what is it, when is it used, and what are the procedural safeguards?” The workshop, chaired by Stefan Cassella, former Chief of Asset Forfeiture at the United States Attorney’s Office in Baltimore, will also include Jeff Simser, Legal Director at the Ministry of the Attorney General in Canada.
