When ultra-high-net-worth individuals encounter financial distress, a cross-border insolvency strategy may be necessary to account for the impacts on their assets across different jurisdictions. Kobre & Kim’s Daniel Saval, who focuses on cross-border insolvency strategies, joins the American Bar Association International Law Section Annual Conference in Washington, DC to discuss these issues on a panel at 4:30 pm local time, May 8, 2024.
The panel, “When Fame is Not Enough: Insolvency Proceedings for Private Clients – a Comparison of Proceedings and Consequences from a Multijurisdictional Perspective,” looks at the actions necessary for private clients to seek relief when facing economic downturn in different jurisdictions. The discussion will compare the criteria needed to be met for personal insolvency proceedings and the ranking of creditors, as well as how creditors can protect their interests and how proceedings affect assets outside the insolvency court’s jurisdiction.
