Kobre & Kim founding partner Steven Kobre and Herbert Stern of Stern & Kilcullen were named "Litigators of the Week" by The American Lawyer.
In a major victory for Chevron Corp., Mr. Kobre and Mr. Stern spearheaded Chevron's lawsuit in Gibraltar against online gaming magnate Russell DeLeon, the largest single financial backer of a lawsuit against Chevron that was determined by a New York judge to have been conducted in a fraudulent manner.
On Monday, February 16, Mr. DeLeon agreed to transfer his interest to Chevron if requested to do so and thereby to walk away from his US $23 million investment. Kobre & Kim lawyers James Corbett QC and Andrew Stafford QC argued in the Gibraltar court along with local Gibraltar counsel from Attias & Levy.
Mr. Kobre explained that the cross-border elements of this litigation made the case a perfect fit for Kobre & Kim and praised Chevron for its willingness to pursue the litigation. "This was an example where you had a client that was prepared to go anywhere on earth to fight for the principle that no one should be allowed to profit from the fraudulent conduct of others," he said.
