Kobre & Kim Makes Global Restructuring Review’s Top Firms for 2021

November 23, 2021

Kobre & Kim has been named one of the world’s leading firms for international insolvency and restructuring matters by Global Restructuring Review (GRR) with its inclusion in the GRR 100. Several of the firm’s insolvency partners received particular mention as well, including New York-based Dan Saval and Farrington Yates; Cayman-based Peter Tyers-Smith and Ulrich Payne; and Hong Kong-based Timothy Haynes.

“Kobre & Kim was hire heavy in 2020,” GRR writes, with the appointments of Payne and Haynes, the latter of which having previously served as head of Walkers’ insolvency and dispute resolution group in Hong Kong. Following the firm’s work with Puerto Rico’s fiscal oversight board after investigating its debt crisis, GRR cited the team’s globe-spanning portfolio of cross-border insolvency matters, from acting as counsel to a litigation trust in the bankruptcy of Greek shipping fuel supplier Aegean Marine Petroleum Network – involving a legal strategy which has been deployed across a number of jurisdictions including Greece, Luxembourg, Cyprus, the U.S. and the Marshall Islands – to representing one of the world’s largest manufacturers of ammunition in Chapter 15 recognition proceedings in Florida for the Brazilian bankruptcy of wire and cable manufacturing group SAM Indústrias.

A UK-based client who worked with Kobre & Kim on a litigious and difficult matter said of the team: “At all times the Kobre & Kim team were able to balance a key consideration of commerciality with the legal cards they were dealt…They were able to put aside ego and I’m sure a lot of frustration with the other side and work to get deals done.”
