Following a successful win earlier this year, when Kobre & Kim obtained court appointment of a mother as the legal guardian of her 24-year-old intellectually disabled daughter, our pro bono team just landed another victory for our client. This month, we successfully gained asylum in the U.S. for her and her children who fled Honduras over a decade ago.
Before arriving to the U.S., our client suffered the murder of her children’s father, along with death threats, severe violent attacks, and frequent stalking. When our client had been appointed guardian of her daughter, the pro bono team navigated difficult procedural challenges in Immigration Court to consolidate our client’s Immigration Court proceeding with that of her disabled daughter. Once successfully consolidated, the team secured a grant of asylum for our client and her five children.
After years of persecution, our client and her children are now able to live their lives safely in the United States free of the daily persecution they suffered in Honduras.
Kobre & Kim’s pro bono team includes Steven Perlstein, Christen Martosella, Michael Sanfilippo, Sydney Johnson, Jake Calvert, Genna Sinel, Layan Charara, Amy Rossabi, Amanda Collado-Mesa, Jaida Griffiths, Javi Vega, Julia Campbell, Matt Aldridge, Yesenia Garcia Godinez, and former firm colleague Abraham Waserstein.
