Kobre & Kim’s John Han recently sat down with Commercial Dispute Resolution to discuss the latest court decision in the investigation against CPA Global for alleged overcharging of its patent renewal services.
On March 18th, the Honorable Deborah K. Chasanow of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland decided that CPA Global’s former head of sales for North America must submit to a deposition to discuss the aforementioned allegations. Han discussed the unusual posture of the case – including attempts by CPA to prevent the disposition from occurring – as a “kitchen sink motion” to quash the firm’s subpoena on every ground: “Although denied on technical grounds,” Han said, “the court likely also considered that CPA was trying to stop a deposition that even the deponent did not object to.”
