With a boom in insolvency and restructuring work in Brazil in the aftermath of the pandemic, as well as an inflow of capital into the region to secure commodities and infrastructure projects, Kobre & Kim has expanded its Brazil-based team to reinforce the firm’s local presence, Law.com International reported.

The firm has recently welcomed Sergio de Aguiar and Ana Frischtak. Leonardo Palhares, the firm’s regional managing director for Latin America, explained, “We want to grow in the region, but [by] adding the right people.” He added, “Many firms have a Latin America office, maybe based in Miami. Our idea is to have locals and fight fights as locals.”

Mr. Aguiar is qualified in England and Wales, and focuses on complex cross-border commercial and investment disputes and has experience representing clients in the construction, oil and gas, energy, aviation, mining, telecom and infrastructure sectors. Ms. Frischtak is U.S.-qualified and represents multinational companies and their executives in high-stakes cross-border government enforcement defense matters, particularly those by U.S. enforcement agencies.
