Defense of wealth against litigation threats is increasingly an area of concern for many high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) in Africa, and in particular, women in business have unique concerns over their assets. In collaboration with Oraro & Company Advocates, Kobre & Kim’s Polly Wilkins, Adriana Riviere-Badell and Vicky Kay examined how HNWIs and their advisors can navigate potential threats to their wealth during a panel discussion in Nairobi, Kenya, on March 10.
During the session, “Women, Wealth & The Law,” Ms. Kay moderated discussions with Ms. Riviere-Badell and Ms. Wilkins as they explored how HNWIs can defend their assets and reputations from litigation threats. Ms. Riviere-Badell looked at how asset attacks can come from all corners, including from family, governments, creditors and commercial parties, and how HNWIs can proactively and defensively counteract litigation scenarios threatening their assets and trust structures in various jurisdictions. Ms. Wilkins analyzed steps HNWIs can take to protect their reputations from attack, including addressing misinformation on social media and considering strategies – both public and private – to respond to an attacker.
Joining Ms. Riviere-Badell, Ms. Wilkins and Ms. Kay were keynote speaker the Honorable Lady Justice Abida Ali Aroni of the Kenya Court of Appeal; Chacha Odera, Noella Lubano and Radhika Arora of Oraro & Co.; and investment professional Andia Chakava.
