Nick Cherryman Leads Cambridge Forums Discussion on Investor-State Arbitration

November 12, 2021

By dealing with powerful counterparties over potentially billions of dollars, investors enforcing arbitration awards against sovereign states should be well aware of the legal, investigative and political challenges facing them. Kobre & Kim’s Nick Cherryman, who focuses on complex cross-border judgment enforcement, will discuss developments in this space during the Forum on International Judgments and Awards, hosted by Cambridge Forums.

The discussion, “Recent Developments in Investor-State Arbitration,” will take place in Surrey, United Kingdom, at 10:40 am local time on November 15, 2021. Along with fellow discussion leader Kees de Visser of Omni Bridgeway, Mr. Cherryman will dive into topics such as the 2018 Achmea decision by the Court of Justice of the European Union and its effect on award enforcement arising from bilateral investment treaties; the tactics states use to frustrate enforcement efforts; and developments in the law of sovereign immunity.
