Shaun Wu is an accomplished litigator who focuses on high-stakes multi-jurisdictional disputes and U.S. government investigations involving China. He has extensive experience representing clients across Asia and is admitted in the U.S., UK and offshore jurisdictions, including the British Virgin Islands, where he handles China-related matters that have offshore implications. Mr. Wu is also a registered foreign lawyer in Hong Kong.

Mr. Wu often represents multinational corporations, boards of directors, audit committees and senior company executives in white-collar criminal defense and internal investigations in China. In particular, he focuses on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), bribery, fraud, sanctions, and other regulatory enforcement matters in which clients rely on his deep business knowledge in China and bilingual language skills. Most recently, Chambers Global 2018 and Chambers Asia-Pacific 2018 noted that interviewees appreciated Mr. Wu’s "quick, clear and comprehensive responses” and “impressive language capabilities, citing his proficiency in English, Mandarin and Cantonese." Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2018 also recognized Mr. Wu as a key individual for Regulatory: Anti-Corruption and Compliance.

Mr. Wu has acted in a wide range of cross-border disputes involving governments, state-owned enterprises, multinational corporations, financial institutions and high-net-worth individuals, including litigation and arbitration under the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and other rules. These matters often include offshore asset recovery; outbound investment; and joint venture, debtor-creditor, financial services, merger and acquisition, and general commercial disputes. Chambers Global 2018 and Chambers Asia-Pacific 2018 ranked Mr. Wu as a leading individual for dispute resolution. Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2017 also recognized Mr. Wu in the Dispute Resolution: Litigation category, noting that he “is praised for his handling of China-related matters and ‘does an excellent job conveying the case across cultural and linguistic barriers.’”

In recognition of his leading achievements, Mr. Wu won an “Individual of the Year” award for dispute resolution at the ALM China Law & Practice Awards 2015 in Beijing, China and was named one of a select few finalists for “Disputes Star of the Year” at the Asialaw Asia-Pacific Dispute Resolution Awards 2016 and 2017. Mr. Wu has been featured by Reuters, Bloomberg, Financial Times and other top-tier news media for his work and knowledge.

Mr. Wu is admitted to the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators, and is regarded as a thought leader for China-foreign disputes. He is a frequent speaker at international conferences in the U.S., Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Seoul, and has contributed as expert and author to many leading publications.

Before joining Kobre & Kim, Mr. Wu practiced at King & Spalding LLP, where he focused on international arbitration, regulatory litigation and cross-border dispute resolution.

Mr. Wu is a native Mandarin Chinese speaker and also speaks Cantonese.
