Robin Rathmell Discusses Litigation Funding Abroad at the Big Debt Recovery Conference in Moscow

April 22, 2019

A gradual relaxation of rules in most common law jurisdictions has led to litigation funding quickly becoming a more mainstream solution to mitigating the financial risk of litigation around the world. English barrister and U.S. lawyer Robin Rathmell utilized his expertise in high-stakes international disputes to discuss litigation funding and provide insights for practical implementation in a panel titled “Litigation is expensive. Litigation Funding?” at Legal Insight’s Big Debt Recovery conference in Moscow on April 18.

Mr. Rathmell not only provided the basics of litigation funding and discussed its benefits and challenges, but also delved deeper to discount common misconceptions while imparting lessons learned from real-world cases involving third-party litigators. He discussed the Kobre & Kim Bentham IMF Litigation Fund as one such example, which supports Israeli companies within the tech industry for matters involving trade secret, patent, trademark and licensing disputes.
