January 4, 2019

Offshore lawyers Rebecca Hume and Peter Tyers-Smith will explore cross-border insolvency at the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Caribbean Insolvency Symposium.

Rebecca Hume will examine the impact of creditor strategies across jurisdictions on the panel "Contracting Out of Bankruptcy: Domestic and International Considerations," taking place on January 8. Panelists will review the effectiveness of creditor strategies, including limiting the type of available bankruptcy relief and determining which laws to apply in cross-border insolvency proceedings. The panel will also discuss the variations in international public policies regarding restrictions on a borrower’s ability to seek bankruptcy relief.

On January 9, Peter Tyers-Smith will join the panel "Professional Disclosures in Bankruptcy Cases: The Ethics Face-Off of the Century," which will highlight the ethics and integrity of the bankruptcy system as well as the disclosure requirements of professionals practicing in the BVI, Cayman Islands, and United States.
