In its ongoing offensive pursuit against Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting, Kobre & Kim has secured another key victory in California in the form of an Order to Appear for Examination of Judgment Debtor. Experienced international judgment enforcement lawyer Chris Cogburn, who helps represent the Jia’s creditor, spoke to Law360 about the recent win.
Cogburn said the Kobre & Kim team is “aggressively pursuing” every option to enforce the judgment against Jia, with the examination order and a recent injunction both two pieces of a larger puzzle.
“We will continue to take all necessary steps to put an end to this chase – which has taken our client from Beijing and Hong Kong to the U.S. and the British Virgin Islands – until one of two things happens: Mr. Jia stops ignoring his legal obligations and pays our client, or we take what we need to make our client whole through involuntary judicial means,” Cogburn said.
