Jian Wu Discusses Dispute Resolution Between Chinese Investors and Local African Partners

May 8, 2019

The increase of cross-border partnerships as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative represents a significant financial risk for foreign investors looking to capitalize on Africa’s emerging markets. Inevitably, when some of those relationships break down, joint venture disputes across the public and private sectors are sure to arise.

Kobre & Kim’s Jian Wu will utilize his experience in multijurisdictional investigations to discuss the unique challenges facing China-based companies operating in Africa at New York City Bar’s “Chinese Energy and Infrastructure Projects in Emerging Markets” panel in New York on May 9th. Joined by a panel of Chinese and Nigerian lawyers, Mr. Wu will explore the practical issues and complications that arise in large-scale investment projects including fraud and misrepresentations, anti-corruption related challenges, and the need for compliance to minimize risks of liability.
