Grant of Asylum Secured for Kobre & Kim Pro Bono Client

September 25, 2015

A Kobre & Kim pro bono team has helped secure a grant of asylum for our client, a native of El Salvador seeking refuge in the U.S.

Our client left El Salvador on his own at the young age of 17, escaping Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang members who had taken over his small town. When his father, who ran a small motorcycle repair business, was unable to pay protection money, the gang members threatened our client’s life. After the gang shot at his family’s house, the teenager fled El Salvador and made the dangerous journey through Guatemala and Mexico by foot, motorcycle and bus.

Kobre & Kim devised his asylum strategy and represented him through proceedings in immigration court and with the asylum office. Our client was granted asylum in recognition of the continued threat to his life should he return to his home country.

We proudly recognize the efforts of all the team members involved in this case, which produced a life-changing result for our client.
