Kobre & Kim Adds Highly Accomplished Civil Litigator Zachary Rosenbaum in New York

January 16, 2020

Zachary D. Rosenbaum, an experienced litigator with a long track record of success in high-stakes civil disputes, has joined Kobre & Kim in its New York office.

Mr. Rosenbaum’s wide-ranging experience in New York and abroad spans securities and structured finance, M&A, secured and unsecured financing, real estate investments, and intellectual property. His clients include hedge funds, bondholders, shareholders, foreign and domestic asset managers, private equity funds, trustees, and other institutional investors.

Throughout his career, Mr. Rosenbaum has tried a multitude of jury and non-jury cases, and has litigated against virtually every Wall Street bank. Of particular note is Mr. Rosenbaum’s representation of a European institution that managed one of the world’s largest portfolios of subprime, synthetic collateralized debt obligations (CDOs), which were the “long” side of the subject of the 2010 book and 2015 film The Big Short. He also won a US $475 million award in a cross-border dispute that centered on a failed US $5 billion M&A transaction.

In 2019, Chambers USA spotlighted Mr. Rosenbaum as one of just 11 leading litigators in New York representing institutional plaintiffs in securities litigation. Chambers USA describes him as “a phenomenal lawyer who has a very strong following with hedge funds.” He has also been recognized each year in New York Super Lawyers from 2011 to 2019.

In addition to his experience on the “buy side” of financial markets, Mr. Rosenbaum has also engaged in intellectual property litigation and bankruptcy-related litigation, from successfully defeating trade secret infringement claims brought in the Southern District of Florida to litigating in the New York courts and abroad in matters involving complex commercial transactions such as CDO and mortgage-backed securities transactions.

“Zach is a highly regarded lawyer in the New York legal community whose complex U.S. civil litigation experience will greatly benefit our clients,” said Steve Kobre, founding partner of Kobre & Kim. “He will be an important addition to our disputes and investigations capabilities.”

Before joining Kobre & Kim, Mr. Rosenbaum chaired the capital markets litigation practice at Lowenstein Sandler in New York, where he represented investment managers and institutional investors with a focus on securities and structured finance litigation.

“I’ve long admired the special position that Kobre & Kim occupies in the high-stakes disputes market,” said Mr. Rosenbaum. “It is the perfect fit for the kind of work that I do, and I’m excited to be part of it.”
