William McGovern Joins Virtual Panel to Discuss the Role of Whistleblowers in the U.S.

September 18, 2020

Whistleblowers are behind virtually every major fraud investigation in the United States, but are whistleblowers a force for good, or a source of trouble? Kobre & Kim’s William McGovern joins a Wake Forest University Center for the Study of Capitalism virtual panel to discuss on September 22, 1pm EDT.

During the session, titled “The Balancing Act: The Role of Whistleblowers in American Commerce and Government,” McGovern and the panel will look at how since the 2008 financial crisis, the U.S. government has taken steps to increase protections and financial incentives for whistleblowers in the private sector. The panel will discuss how whistleblowers can protect themselves, and on the flip side, how companies can mitigate risks from financially incentivized whistleblowers.

McGovern will be joined by Sherron Watkins, the former Vice President of Enron Corporation who warned about accounting irregularities; John Kostyack, a nonprofit executive and attorney; and hosts of the panel, Richard Levick, Chairman and CEO of LEVICK, and Christina Elson, Executive Director of the Center for the Study of Capitalism.
