Wade Weems Discusses Enduring U.S.-China Conflict Over TikTok in the South China Morning Post

Tech will remain one of the critical battlegrounds between the U.S. and China in 2021, even as a new administration is set to take office in the U.S. Kobre & Kim’s Shanghai-based Wade Weems spoke with the South China Morning Post on one of clashes that will continue into this year.

Although ByteDance, the Chinese owner of social media app TikTok, failed to meet the U.S. government’s December 4 deadline to divest the app, the Trump administration has not taken any follow-up action. Meanwhile, several U.S. courts have already blocked the U.S. Commerce Department’s ban on TikTok’s U.S. operations. Still, Weems argues that the U.S. has appealed those decisions, meaning “the cases and the issues [at stake] are still very much open.”
