Five Kobre & Kim Matters Featured in BVI Arbitration Centre's Inaugural Case Digest

Five matters handled by Kobre & Kim's BVI team have been featured in the British Virgin Islands Arbitration Centre's inaugural Case Digest, which highlights significant arbitration enforcement decisions that have contributed to the development of Caribbean jurisprudence.

Of the 21 decisions selected for inclusion, five involved Kobre & Kim representations, accounting for nearly one quarter of all cases featured in the publication. The matters were litigated by Kobre & Kim’s Timothy de Swardt and Merrick Watson, with Stephen Moverley Smith KC appearing as lead counsel in one of the matters.

The featured decisions address important issues relating to the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards before the BVI Commercial Court and Court of Appeal. Their inclusion in the Digest reflects the significance of these cases in shaping the development of arbitration enforcement law in the jurisdiction.

The recognized matters include:

• Win Business (Caofeidian) Limited v Anadarko China Holdings 2 Company and Anadarko Petroleum Corporation
• BEC Limited v A2 and A1 (Commercial Court)

The Digest also includes C-Mobile Services Limited v Huawei Technologies Co. Limited, a matter in which Kobre & Kim’s Mungo Lowe was involved prior to joining the firm.

This recognition highlights Kobre & Kim's experience in complex international arbitration-related disputes and cross-border enforcement proceedings in the BVI.
